Energy issues

Well, its been a little while since I've written. Sorry. I've not had the greatest past few weeks. Sorry, I can't really write about it at this time. Maybe sometime later. And I don't have any pictures either. Oops. Lets see, I know I wrote about Nathaniel's surgery, and that it went well, but I didn't say that he did end up getting his medical leave extended, which is good. Otherwise we'd have had real struggles this month in lots of areas. So, now, he's got one more week at home, and then he goes back to his job. Also, shortly after Nathaniel's surgery, Jacob finally learned a second sign. He now can say "more please" though, most of the time its just "please". I'm now working on "water" and "food" with him. He's kinda starting to get "water" down. Except that he points to his cheek, which isn't 'quite' right. Lol.
Also, we finally have a few answers for Jessica. We've been thinking for a while that Jessica has some "extras" as I call them. Some of the things she does seem a little on the extreme side, just in the intensity and amount, for a 3-year-old. So we decided it couldn't hurt to get her evaluated for various disorders that seemed like possibilities, just on the hunt for information. After seeing a doctor, and a child psychologist, we have learned that Jessica probably does have ADHD. (The psychologist was hesitant to fully diagnose, but said she is on the "spectrum" for it) It's basically a question of where you draw the line for the diagnosis, and its often harder to tell before school age where exactly they fall. So, there is that, which is, in theory, easy to help. We just make sure to give her activities that use lots of energy, and give her lots of running around time. In practice that's a little harder for me, as I tend to be more of an indoor, sit-down activities type of person right now, and for the past few years.
There was one other thing too. Again, as far as a disorder is concerned, where do you draw the line, but Jessica does have some sensory "issues". For example even on relatively quiet noises (like the toilet being flushed at home) she's always clapped her hands over her ears like they are the loudest noise ever. And she freaks out about warm water (even barely warm, I'd probably still call it cold) calling it too hot. Those are just 2 examples of things that are sensory issues. The psychologist said that yes, those are sensory issues, so she does have some, but to really find out how many, what exactly to do, and if there is a diagnosis, we need to get her in to see an Occupational Therapist. Now the trick is finding one that deals with children, SPD (or sometimes called SIT, Sensory Integration Therapy) especially, and that is covered by our insurance.
So that is some of what we've been dealing with the past few weeks. Hopefully, as the weather is getting warmer, and as I'm feeling all-around healthier, I'll be able to take the kids to the park, or on outings like to the zoo and such. For 1, then we'll have some pictures, and for 2, that gets out energy right? Too bad it also uses up my seemingly limited supply of energy.
